PAHAN THARUWA - CHILDREN'S ORPHANS PARTY - EVENT MARCH 2004

In December 2002, the MJFCF brought a smile to the faces of approximately 500 under-privileged children from various parts of Sri Lanka. Due to its great success, the Foundation decided to host a similar event with urban slum children from around Colombo being the recipients of this years event.

The therapeutic effect of having a reason to smile for even a few hours is recognised as being critical in the lives of these children, who suffer from abandonment, physical and sexual abuse, violence in their homes and other forms of deprivation. MJFCF worked jointly with UNICEF and PEACE in assembling a group of approx 500 children to provide them with a day of enjoyment.

The event was held on Friday 26 Mar at Vihara Maha Devi Park and children from the following areas participated:

Egoda Uyana, Moratuwa, Angulana, Ratmalana, Mt Lavinia, Mattakkuliya, Thotalanga and Bloemendhal.
